Lucy, Dev and Mitty are children of Reginald. Suzie is daughter of Walter, Reggie's brother. Tom is son of Julia, Reggie's and Walter's sister.
Hi. I'm a Kernan (well, formerly a Kernan), living in Londonderry, NH. I thought I'd make the connection.
ReplyDeleteMy father (Melvin Craig Kernan, goes by Craig) grew up largely in San Francisco, and his father (Col. Melvin Kernan) decended from a line of Kernans I think mostly on the West Coast. Mel lived in Mt. Vernon, WA until his death a number of years ago. My parents met in Germany, where my father attended University and my Mother (who is 1/2 Irish, 1/2 German, last name Mueller) was living. I noticed the Schloss name and thought that was interesting. Another Kernan-German combo!
Not sure where your branch came from, or how far back a connection might be. I have three brothers, Teague Kernan (San Francisco), Tenzing Kernan (Bow, WA) and Ian Kernan (Denver).
Thanks, JustOla, for the info. I'm the Schloss part of Kernan-Schloss, so am a newcomer to the family history. Hoping some of my wife Lucy's more knowledgable cousins will weigh in. What I know is that Reginald and Jesse lived in Utica, NY--and had 3 kids in the early 1900s: Reginald, Walt, and Julia. Reginald had 3 kids: my wife Lucy (Arlington VA), Amity (Paris, France), Dev (Somerville, MA). Walt had 5 kids: Wendy (RIP), Tim (Milton, MA), Walt (New Haven, CT), Henrietta (Worcester, MA) and Suzie (S. Berwick, ME). Julia had 4 kids: Kitty (Atlanta), Ellen (Bethesda, MD), Charlie (Red Bank, NJ), and Tom (Alexandria VA). And this generation of 12 has had many kids, not sure I know the total number off the top of my head. I think 14.
ReplyDeleteI also know that there's a book called the Kernans of Utica that has lots of family tree info; hopefully Ellen, Kitty or Tom can add more from there.
I also know that the Utica Kernans have an annual 4th of July family reunion in Utica; we're thinking of going this year, never been. Maybe we'll see you there? Have you ever been?
Finally, I know that a few members of this blog were very excited about your post and didn't know there was a California family connection.
